Ernesto Canto da Maia – Un Maestro della Scultura Moderna Ernesto do Canto Faria e Maia, noto anche come Ernesto canto da maia, fu uno scultore portoghese nato a Ponta Delgada nel 1890 e morto nella stessa città nel 1981. Figura prominente della prima generazione di artisti modernisti portughesi, iniziò la sua carriera artistica in giovane età studiando scultura e pittura. La sua attività fu divisa tra gli Açores, Lisbona e Parigi, dove ebbe modo di conoscere le influenze del suo tempo e sviluppare un linguaggio artistico originale e innovativo.
