          La vita e l'evoluzione artistica di William Hart

          Nato a Paisley, nel Regno Unito, William Hart emigrò negli Stati Uniti con la sua famiglia nel 1831, stabilendosi infine ad Albany, New York. Il suo primo cammino artistico ebbe inizio come apprendista presso un pittore decorativo ad Albany e Troy, dove acquisì la sua prima esperienza decorando i pannelli delle carrozze con vedute paesaggistiche. Dopo un periodo trascorso come ritrattista e un tentativo non riuscito di ottenere commissioni negli Stati del Midwest, Hart espose la sua prima opera alla National Academy of Design nel 1848. Al termine di un periodo di studi in Europa, tornò in America spostando il proprio interesse verso la pittura di paesaggio. Si stabilì infine a New York City, aprendo uno studio nel Tenth Street Studio Building nel 1858 e ricoprendo successivamente la carica di Presidente della Brooklyn Academy of Design nel 1865.
