          In 1958, the Polish government invited the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (“the Joint’) to return to care for Jews repatriated from the Soviet Union. The Joint partnered with the Organization for Rehabilitation through Training (ORT) to develop vocational training programs in needlework, radio technology, carpentry, and cardboard working. Cooperatives were established in order to provide jobs, helping surviving Jews support their families.
