In her 2011 work Venn Diagrams (under the Spotlight), a forerunner toA ∩ B ∩ C, Amalia Pica uses overlapping circles of colored light to refer to her childhood in 1970s Argentina. During this period, the country’s military junta forbade the concept of intersection from being taught in elementary classes, concerned that even its mathematical representation might ultimately prompt citizens to conspire against it. InA ∩ B ∩ C, Pica invites performers to manipulate translucent colored shapes, producing new configurations that, emancipated from the historical anecdote, use abstraction and intersection as an invitation to reimagine forms of collaboration and community.

Born in 1978 in Neuquén, Argentina, Amalia Pica emerged from a landscape defined by the profound shadows of the "Dirty War." This period of state terrorism and political repression in her homeland did more than just shape her early years; it became the silent architect of her artistic inquiry. Growingard amidst such turbulence, Pica developed an acute sensitivity to the fragility of human connection and the ways in which language can both liberate and imprison.
