Life and Artistic Evolution

Born in the People's Republic of China, Rolf Muller later moved to Germany, studying at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe. During his formative years, he was a student of Ernst Gustav Würtenberger. After settling in Landau, he adopted the name Rolf Müller-Landau. His early work was characterized by an impressionist style, focusing on landscapes, portraits, and still lifes through oil paintings, watercolors, woodcuts, and drawings. His later period saw a shift toward different influences, including the art of France, which informed his development of unique techniques such as Farbschnittmonotypien. In these works, he achieved a fusion of painting and printmaking by printing hand-painted wood and linocuts onto thin Chinese rice paper, creating unique pieces.
