The Dual Life of Henri Robbe

Before dedicating himself entirely to the canvas, Henri Robbe pursued a career in music. He studied music in Paris and Italy, eventually serving as a singing teacher in the French capital. His vocal talents as a tenor led him to perform in various settings, including singing solos during masses at the Cathedral of Saints-Michel-et-Gudule in Brussels. He also performed in concerts, interpreting works such as passages from Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti and the romance C'est une coquette by Louis Clapisson. After returning to Belgium in 1840, he continued his work as a singing teacher in Brussels until 1844, the year he began to focus exclusively on painting.

A Legacy of Still Life

Robbe’s artistic output was characterized by a romantic style, focusing primarily on still life compositions of flowers and fruit.
