Life and Artistic Journey

Born in Düsseldorf, Germany, Bernhard Gobiet was a painter who studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1911 to 1914. During the First World War, he served as a soldier, traveling to the Balkans, Constantinople, Asia Minor, and the Palestine front. His time in the Orient expanded the spectrum of his painting. Upon returning from the war, he continued his studies at the Kunstakademie as a master student of August Deusser. Gobiet was a member of the Künstlerverein Malkasten, eventually serving as its chairman for a period of time. His work was featured in various exhibitions, including the Düsseldorfer Großen Kunstausstellung at the Museum Kunstpalast and the Deutsche Kunstausstellung in Munich.

He frequently painted motifs from the Hofgarten, Malkastenpark, and Grafenberger Wald, and he also drew inspiration from Flanders. His travels led him to many locations, including Italy, Dalmatia, Hungary, Switzerland, Southern France, Spain, North Africa, and Palestine. His repertoire included several notable subjects:

In the 1930s, his work was subject to the "Entartete Kunst" designation, resulting in the seizure of two oil paintings: a landscape and "Zigeunerkinder" (1931). He died in Düsseldorf in 1945.
