Gabriele Basilico is recognised the world over for his study of the landscape. Though trained as an architect, he quickly abandoned the traditional practice of architecture in favour of a new way of reading and interpreting its language. For Basilico, photography became a tool for decoding space through direct experience and an attention toward what is revealed and communicated by the complexity of the existing. This particular photograph belongs to the series realised for the Cantiere d’Autore. Racconto fotografico, commissioned by the MAXXI to document the construction of the Museum through the lens of twenty photographers. As with the other works realised for the MAXXI (atlante italiano 003. Sguardi contemporanei) Basilico offers a clear and ‘participative’ vision of the final phase of the construction site.
