A Life of Art and Literature

Olivia Serres was a British painter and writer born in Warwick. The daughter of a house painter, she studied art under John Thomas Serres, a marine painter to George III, and married him in 1791. Her artistic work was exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts and the British Institution. Beyond her painting, she was a literary figure who produced a novel, various poems, and a memoir regarding her uncle, the Rev. Dr. Wilmot.

Later Years and Writings

In addition to her visual art, Serres is identified as the author of an expanded version of a text titled The Secret History of the Court of England, which was published in two volumes. Her life was marked by financial difficulties and periods of imprisonment for debt. She died in 1834, leaving behind two daughters.
