Born in 1977 in Baia Mare, Romania, Adrian Ghenie emerged as a significant voice in contemporary art. He continued his education at the Art and Design University of Cluj-Napoca, graduating in 2001.

- February 2016 saw the sale of "The Sunflowers of 1937" for £3,177,000 at Sotheby’s London – becoming his most expensive work sold to date. This painting is inspired by Vincent van Gogh's iconic “Sunflowers”.
