His later years saw him capturing the light of the Mediterranean, specifically around Monaco and Monte-Carlo. These works, dating to 1872, suggest a fascination with the bright, clear atmosphere of the coast. Even in his final decade, Hostein remained active, producing pieces like Castelnau in 1879.
