Prangenberg’s work is characterized by a profound engagement with the physical properties of his chosen media. His approach to painting often involved an impasto technique, where paint was applied thickly to allow the surfaces to be cut into. In his ceramic work, he utilized terracotta and glass flux, creating surfaces marked by fingerprints, holes, notches, and incisions.
