Barent (or Bernard) Pietersz Fabritius (16 November 1624 – 20 October 1673) was a significant, though relatively lesser-known, Dutch painter of the Baroque period. While the specifics of this apprenticeship remain somewhat unclear, the influence of Rembrandt's dramatic use of light and shadow, as well as his psychological depth in portraiture, are evident in Fabritius’s work.

Fabritius primarily focused on biblical subjects—such as "The Presentation in the Temple" and "Abraham Dismissing Hagar and Ishmael"—mythological narratives, and historical scenes. However, he is particularly celebrated for his portraits, which capture a remarkable sense of individuality and psychological insight. His style is characterized by:
