Born in Tulbagh, South Africa, Erik Frederik Bester Howard Laubscher emerged as a profound figure in the landscape of South African art. Laubscher's personal life was also intertwined with the art world, having met his spouse, the artist Claude Bouscharain, at the Académie Montmartre in 1950.
