As he moved to London to study at the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art, Peppercorn found himself at the heart of a burgeoning movement. It was here that he embraced the principles of plein air painting, learning to step away from the controlled environment of the studio and confront the unpredictable elements of nature directly. This transition from meticulous detail to an emotive, light-drenched style allowed him to bridge the gap between traditional realism and the soft, hazy beauty of the Impressionist movement.
The true heartbeat of Peppercorn’s oeuvre lies in his profound connection to the French master Claude Corot. Much like Corot, Peppercorn was less interested in a photographic reproduction of reality and more devoted to capturing the sentiment of a landscape.
