His career saw significant international exposure, including exhibitions at the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley and the New York World's Fair. In 1918, he was commissioned as a war artist to document Canada's war effort, producing the Women in War Series, which illustrates women supporting food gathering during the war.
A dedicated educator and member of several professional organizations, he taught at the Ontario College of Art and was a founding member of the Ontario Institute of Painters. His prolific output included approximately 2000 works, many of which are held in permanent collections such as the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Ontario.
