Farhanna Pura: Bridging Tradition and Modern Luxury
Born in Brunei Darussalam, Farhanna Pura’s artistic vision is rooted in a profound connection to her cultural heritage – the vibrant tapestry of Malay and Chinese traditions interwoven into Bruneian identity. This formative experience ignited her passion for fashion design, giving birth to Na Forrer, a brand dedicated to crafting contemporary couture imbued with enduring elegance.
From childhood fascination with 90’s pop culture and chic cityscapes—particularly captivated by Spice Girl’s impeccable style—Farhanna recognized fashion's capacity to empower women and celebrate individuality. Recognizing her innate talent for styling and tailoring, she pursued a marketing degree at Hertfordshire University, sharpening her understanding of consumer behavior and strategic branding. This academic foundation complemented invaluable insights gained from her career in change management, honing her observational skills and fueling her creative process.
The distinctive aesthetic of Na Forrer originates in Farhanna’s admiration for power dressing—the confident silhouettes and assertive tailoring championed by influential figures who dared to defy convention. Driven by a desire to translate this inspiration into garments that embraced diversity while subtly conveying sophistication, she meticulously selected fabrics like Songket, Brunei’s iconic silk and gold thread weaving tradition. Each piece is elevated with artistic embellishments, reflecting Farhanna's unwavering commitment to craftsmanship and honoring Bruneian artistry.
A transformative moment arrived with the reimagining of “Baju Kebaya,” a traditional Malay dress symbolizing femininity and grace. This couture design incorporates elements of Bruneian heritage—specifically a corset crafted from Songket fabric—historically worn by brides and grooms during ceremonial occasions and royal celebrations. The boxy shoulder embodies empowerment and modernity, mirroring Farhanna’s dedication to blending tradition with stylistic innovation. Collaborations with artist Lully Selb on the euca silk design further enrich each garment's artistic expression.
Farhanna Pura champions sustainable practices within Na Forrer, prioritizing ethical sourcing and minimizing environmental impact—a testament to her belief in art’s role as a catalyst for positive change. Her unwavering commitment to empowering women through exquisitely crafted clothing solidifies her legacy as an artist who honors cultural heritage while shaping the future of fashion in Brunei and beyond.
