A Life of Exile and Artistry

Born in Montesquiu, Catalonia, José Balmes was forced to leave Spain during the Spanish Civil War due to his father's political militancy. In his new homeland, Balmes pursued his passion for art, entering the School of Fine Arts of the University of Chile, where he studied under Pablo Burchard and Camilo Mori.
