Gustav Klimt (1862-1918), born in Baumgarten near Vienna, came from a family with artistic connections. His father’s work as a gold engraver influenced his aesthetic sensibilities. Klimt studied at the Vienna Kunstgewerbeschule and developed a distinctive style characterized by decorative elements, symbolism, and often erotic themes.
