The Life and Education of Hans Gött
Born in Munich, Germany, Hans Gött began his artistic journey after initially studying architecture. He eventually gained permission to attend the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he studied in the class of Gabriel von Hackl. His pursuit of art led him to Paris, where he attended the Académie Colarossi and the Académie Matisse. During his time in Paris, he was among the German artists associated with the Café du Dôme. Following travels to Brittany and Southern France in 1909, he returned to Munich. He worked in the office of Paul Ludwig Troost and later established his own studio at Baldeplatz, which served as his workspace for sixty years.
Artistic Practice and Contributions
Gött was a painter, draftsman, and graphic artist who focused on classical genres, including portraiture, landscapes, and nude painting. In the realm of printmaking, he preferred etching. His work was characterized by a classical, clarified approach to the human body and landscape. His diverse body of work included:
His professional career included serving as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1944 until 1952. His artistic output extended to commissions for the German Museum and a large mosaic for the Bavarian State Office for Surveying. His works are held in the State Graphic Collection Munich and the Bavarian State Painting Collections.
