Born in Graz on July 18, 1876, Gustáv Wintersteiner began his artistic formation under the guidance of his father, a fellow painter. This early immersion in the craft provided a foundation that he later refined at the Academy in Vienna. His career was defined by a movement between cultural centers, eventually finding a professional home in Bratislava.
In 1894, Wintersteiner took on the role of scenographer for the Bratislava City Theatre. He was also an active participant in the local art scene as a member of the Pozsonyi Fine Arts Society.

Wintersteiner’s work is characterized by a focus on the natural world, specifically through the lens of landscape painting.
