Never bid on art before?

You need no art expertise and no auction experience. It works like any other online purchase, with one difference: you choose the price.

1. Create a free account

   Bidding needs an account, and it takes under a minute. Joining is free, bidding is free, and losing costs you nothing — you are only ever charged if you win.

2. Find a piece you would actually live with

   Open any live lot to see it full size, with its medium, dimensions, current bid and exact closing time. Each lot is a single artwork: it is sold once and never repeated, so the one you are looking at is the only one.

3. Name your price

   Every lot opens at $ 1, so your first bid can be that. You type the amount yourself and confirm it before it is placed — nobody can push you higher than you chose.

4. We tell you if you are outbid

   You do not have to watch the clock. If someone outbids you an email arrives straight away, and you can come back and raise your bid — by at least $ 10 over the current one — any time before the auction closes.

5. The auction closes

   Each auction runs 7 to 30 days, and the closing time is on the lot. The highest bid wins — on a tie, the earlier bid does. If you are not the winner, nothing is charged and nothing is owed.

6. Pay only what you bid

   There is no buyer's premium and no commission added at the end: your total is your winning bid plus shipping. The artwork is waiting in your cart, and you pay through the normal secure checkout within 7 days.
