The Life and Training of Eduard Quitton
Born in Péruwelz, Belgium, Eduard Quitton was the son of Léopold Joseph Quitton, a carpenter, and Louison Quinquanpoix. His formal artistic education began between 1856 and 1858 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tournai, where he studied under the painter Joseph Stallaert. His talent led to further refinement of his skills from 1859 to 1861 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, supported by a grant from the permanent deputation of the Province of Hainaut. After establishing himself in Antwerp in the early 1870s, he married Maria Ludovica Josepha Van Nuland in 1897.
