In the first place its excellent conditions of preservation, then the precious materials used (ivory and gilded silver) and the technical expertise revealed by the body’s craftsmanship: the body has first been turned and then finished with gouge and plane to obtain a perfectly octagonal section. Finally because it provides early evidence (1722) of a solution that became common only after the mid-1700s, namely the presence of a pièce de rechange to change the instrument’s pitch.
