          Sarah Cain: An Exploration of Embodied Abstraction

          Sarah Cain (b. 1979, Albany, New York) is an American contemporary artist whose practice defies categorization, prioritizing intuitive exploration and responding directly to the environment—a philosophy that informs her distinctive approach to abstract painting and installation art. Born in upstate New York, Cain’s formative years were marked by a fascination with music and performance, experiences which would later permeate her artistic vision. Moving to California in 1997 to pursue her passion for visual arts at San Francisco Art Institute—where she earned her BFA in 2001—she honed her skills and embarked on a journey of artistic discovery that culminated in an MFA from UC Berkeley in 2006, followed by a residency at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
