This familial legacy provided young Pier Leone with an immersive education, initially under his father’s tutelage, absorbing the classical traditions championed by masters like Carlo Maratta, Giovanni Battista Gaulli, and Pietro da Cortona. His early connection to the Accademia di San Luca – where his father held the position of secretary and he himself became a member in 1705 with an allegorical work celebrating gratitude – solidified his place within Rome’s thriving artistic community.
