Dawson, was a lawyer, while his mother, Eva Manierre Dawson, possessed an artistic inclination herself. Despite the familial reservations about pursuing art professionally, Dawson demonstrated an early fascination with drawing and painting—a passion nurtured by his teacher at high school, Katherine Dimock. He enrolled in the civil engineering program at Armour Institute of Technology in 1905, where he honed his technical skills and gained invaluable insight into geometric principles that would profoundly influence his artistic vision.
