Hayter on graphic art and mural art at École Nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris. His early prints and etchings gave way to his sensitive Christ figures and faces inspired by Europe

In 1965, he traveled to Paris on an exchange program supported by the French government, where he studied graphic art & murals. This experience profoundly influenced his artistic perspective.
Became a member of the Society of Contemporary Artists, Calcutta, in 1960.

From 1971 to 1973, Roy served as the Principal of the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship.
Subsequently, he became a lecturer in painting at Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan, further solidifying his position within India’s art education system.
