Deliberately choosing canvas as the support for his artistic meditations, Marco Tirelli proceeds here by causing a geometric sphere to emerge from the depths of a seductive black to create an illusionistic architectural space. The spherical geometrical element in the centre of the painting thus becomes a formally immanent emblem alluding to a spiritual dimension richly imbued with magic and sensuality. This is an art that has emancipated itself from dependency on content but possesses a strong intrinsic quality that appears to be indebted to the skills of the Renaissance.
