Committed to producing and promoting Asian documentary comics Slowork Publishing based in Taiwan have brought together a diverse range of talents to produce Mayfly Island (2020) - A prophetic comic that combines Austronesian culture and ecological catastrophe. In a near future where the Earth’s ecology has fallen apart, Mayfly, the only land that remains pure, is instead viewed as an ominous symbol. In the face of a gloomy tomorrow, how will the people of the future view the continuation of life?This work features in Mangasia: Wonderlands of Asian Comics, a Barbican International Enterprises exhibition, curated by Paul Gravett. Mangasia presents a vivid journey through the art of Comics and visual storytelling across Asia. From its historical roots to the most recent digital innovations, the exhibition looks to popular Japanese ‘Manga’ and beyond, highlighting key creators, characters and publications.
