This plate sherd was excavated by Archaeological Services Inc. in Toronto. The ceramic sherd is from a plate decorated with the “Mount Zion” pattern made by C. J. Mason and Co., a Staffordshire pottery company operating in England from the 1820s to the 1840s. C. J. Mason and Co. produced a series of biblical themed transferware patterns, each with a bible reference or quotation inscribed inside a tombstone maker’s mark on the base.
