The Life and Art of Albert Venus
Born in Dresden, Germany, Albert Venus was a painter, draftsperson, genre painter, landscape painter, and etcher. After losing his parents at the age of twelve, he was raised in a Catholic orphanage and attended the Catholic Freischule in his hometown. He later studied at the Dresden Royal Academy of Fine Arts. His oil painting, Gewitter in der römischen Campagna (Acqua acetosa), was awarded an academic scholarship in 1868, which facilitated a subsequent trip to Rome with his friend Viktor Paul Mohn.
