These works reflect a mastery of form developed under Gérard.
Beyond oil painting, Barret engages with the medium of engraving to document the everyday. His engravings for the book Le Finistère en 1836 offer glimpses into the lives of peasants and villagers. Notable pieces include:

- Petite paysanne des environs de Brest: A study of the rural population near his home.
