The Life and Art of William Walker Morris
Born in Weaverham, United Kingdom, William Walker Morris was a British nineteenth-century painter of the Victorian period. He grew up in a household deeply immersed in art, learning his craft at a very young age directly from his father, John C. Morris. The Morris family was a lineage of artists; his father was a noted painter, and his brothers Alfred and John William also pursued careers as artists. While some records suggest he died in 1867 in Wandsworth, London, other works suggest he may have lived later, with dates appearing as late as 1881.
Morris was known for his bucolic genre oil paintings, which often depicted homestead life, sporting scenes, and hunting dogs. His imagery frequently drew upon the life of the Scottish Highlands. By the age of eighteen, he was already demonstrating significant skill, exhibiting The Task at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1850. His work was frequently displayed alongside that of his father at the Royal Academy of Arts throughout his career.
