The Artistic Evolution of Karel Colnot
Karel Marinus Hendrikus Colnot was a Dutch artist born in Bergen, Netherlands. As the son of the painter Arnout Colnot, he received artistic instruction from his father. His early creative output is associated with the Bergense School. Throughout his career, Colnot demonstrated a vast range of technical skills, working as a painter, sculptor, draftsman, etcher, lithographer, engraver, watercolorist, and muralist.
His stylistic journey underwent a significant transition around 1960 when he moved away from the Bergense School style. During this period, his work began to reflect the influence of the French painter Cézanne. Beyond his studio practice, Colnot served as a drawing teacher at the Murmellius Gymnasium in Alkmaar from 1961 to 1964.
