The Dual Life of Henri Robbe
Before dedicating himself entirely to the canvas, Henri Robbe pursued a career in music. He studied music in Paris and Italy, eventually serving as a singing teacher in the French capital. His vocal talents as a tenor led him to perform in various settings, including singing solos during masses at the Cathedral of Saints-Michel-et-Gudule in Brussels. He also performed in concerts, interpreting works such as passages from Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti and the romance C'est une coquette by Louis Clapisson. After returning to Belgium in 1840, he continued his work as a singing teacher in Brussels until 1844, the year he began to focus exclusively on painting.

His work often centered on the anatomy of flowers, particularly roses, and was noted for its delicacy, transparency, and poetic touch. His paintings were frequently exhibited at various salons in Belgium, including those in Brussels, Ghent, and Antwerp, as well as international exhibitions in Paris, London, Vienna, and Philadelphia. His notable works have been held in several collections, including:
