          生い立ちと教育

          ミハイル・アレクサンドロヴィチ・ヴルベルは、ロシアの画家としてその名を歴史に刻みました。1856年3月17日、ロシアのオムスクにて生を授かりました。貴族の血筋と父の軍人としての経歴は、幼少期の彼に深い影響を与えました。1880年にサンクトペテルブルク大学の法学部を卒業したものの、彼の魂が真に求めていたのは芸術の世界でした。帝国美術アカデミーに入学後、パヴェル・チスチャコフに師事し、卓越したデッサン力と、他に類を見ない独創的な画風を確立していきました。

          芸術的キャリア

          ヴルベルの芸術の旅は、象徴主義とアール・ヌーヴォーが織りなす比類なき融合によって彩られています。1884年、彼はキエフの聖シリウス教会における失われた12世紀の壁画とモザイクの復元という重要な任務を任されました。このプロジェクトは彼をヴェネツィアへと導き、中世キリスト教美術の研究を通じて、まるで宝石のように強烈で彩度の高い色彩を用いた、独自のパレットを生み出すこととなったのです。
          • ヴルベルの名を一躍有名にした大作『座る悪魔』（1890年）は、芸術のパトロンであるサヴァ・マモントフから「天才による魅惑的な交響曲」と称賛されました。
          • モスクワのホテル「メトロポリタン」における彼の仕事、特にモザイクパネル『夢の王女』は、応用芸術における彼の卓越した技量を示しています。
