The Life of Edward Lepszy
Born in Oświęcim, Poland, in 1855, Edward Ignacy Jan Lepszy grew up in a family deeply connected to the arts. His travels took him far beyond the familiar streets of Kraków. Between 1890 and 1893, he moved through Lithuania, Latvia, and Belarus, finding work in cities like Riga and Libau. During these years, he often turned his attention to the sea, capturing the movement of water in his seascapes. However, it was the human face that remained his primary interest. He spent much of his career focused on the nuances of portraiture, seeking to capture the essence of his subjects through paint.
