Maiko Takeda’s artistic journey began in Tokyo, Japan, where she was born in 1986. Recognizing the profound connection between headwear and self-expression, Takeda pursued further studies specializing in Millinery at Royal College of Art in 2013. This focused training solidified her dedication to crafting sculptural pieces that explore themes of light, texture, and the human form. She honed her skills through rigorous academic pursuits, earning a BA Honours degree in Jewellery Design from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in 2009. Takeda’s artistic vision centres on transforming commonplace materials—often incorporating bioluminescent elements—into extraordinary artworks.
