The story of Carl August Henry Ericsson begins in Mikkeli, Finland. Born on 6 February 1898, he moves through the early decades of the twentieth century as a figure defined by movement between academic centers. The path leads from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, where he studies between 1915 and 1918 and again in 1919, toward the storied studios of Southern Europe.

Between 1922 and 1924, the atmosphere of Académie Colarossi and Académie de la Grande Chaumiere shapes his technical development. These years in France represent a period of intense formal training, far from the Finnish landscapes of his youth.

Ericsson’s output spans various mediums, reflecting a versatile command over both line and surface. His work exists within the collections of the Finnish National Gallery and the University of Helsinki, Department of Art History.
