John Campbell Longstaff (10 March 1861 – 1 October 1941) was born in Clunes, Victoria, Australia—a region renowned for its gold rush history—and began his artistic journey at a boarding school in Miners Rest and Clunes State School. Recognizing his exceptional talent early on, George Folingsby, a respected instructor at the Melbourne National Gallery School, identified Longstaff as a promising student who would excel in formal art training. Artistic Career
