early life and training
charles louis müller, a renowned french painter, was born in paris on december 22, 1815. he was the pupil of
léon cogniet and
baron gros, among others, at the prestigious école des beaux-arts.
notable works and achievements
müller's first exhibited painting,
christmas morning, dates back to 1837. from 1850 to 1853, he directed the manufactory of gobelin tapestries. in 1864, he became a member of the académie des beaux-arts of the institut de france, succeeding
jean-hippolyte flandrin.

contribution to the louvre and other museums
müller executed frescoes for the
salle d'état and the
galerie d'apollon in the louvre, as well as for the ceiling of the
salon denon.
