Alejandro Cabrera Cano: Bridging Music and Vision

Spanish artist Alejandro Cabrera Cano’s artistic journey is marked by a profound connection to both musical performance and visual expression—a duality that informs his distinctive style and conceptual explorations. Born in the Canary Islands in 1988, Cabrera’s formative years were steeped in music, shaping not only his personal passions but also establishing an unwavering dedication to artistic pedagogy and creative collaboration. Early Musical Influences: From childhood, Cabrera’s musical path was inevitable, nurtured by exceptional teachers who instilled in him a deep appreciation for instrumental technique and artistic interpretation. His debut as a violinist at just eight years old solidified his conviction that music would remain an integral component of his creative life. He studied his Bachelor degree with Peter Brunt, and two Masters in Pedagogy, the second of which he studied under the guidance of Ilona Sie Dhian Ho at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. After his 3 teaching-related postgraduates, he now focuses most of the time on his more than 30 students. He regularly participates in festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival and is remplaçant at the Noord Nederlands Orkest (NNO). He has toured with numerous orchestras all over the world (China, Russia, Netherlands, Spain, to mention a few), has been principal assistant of Concertmaster at the JOFGC and a member of the National Orchestras of Spain (JONDE) and The Netherlands (NJO), apart from IOFGC (with which they recorded 2 CD’s) and many others. Beside the orchestras, Alejandro is an enthusiastic chamber music player, and plays on an Italian violin Settimo Melloni from 1942 and a bow by W. Knopf, Dresden. Academic Pursuits & Collaborative Spirit: Cabrera’s commitment to learning extends beyond personal performance; he serves as Principal Violin Teacher at Cultuurhuis Heemskerk, demonstrating his passion for sharing musical knowledge and fostering artistic growth in others. Furthermore, he is co-founder and Artistic Director of Onalti Academy, highlighting his dedication to nurturing young talent. The Art of Sculpture: Beyond the violin, Cabrera’s artistic exploration encompasses sculpture—a medium that reflects his fascination with geometric forms and minimalist aesthetics. Inspired by prehistoric art and influenced by masters like Brancusi and Moore, he utilizes materials such as clay, metal, and stone to convey concepts of love, loneliness, and maternal care. His sculptural work is characterized by clear lines and modular shapes—a stylistic choice that emphasizes the human form’s eroticism while simultaneously exploring themes of abstraction and geometric precision. Cabrera's artistic endeavors have garnered recognition through exhibitions in Mexico City and internationally, cementing his position as a respected figure within the contemporary art landscape. Notably, he established the Museo Escultórico Ge in 1966 alongside his wife, Irma Peralta, dedicating himself to preserving and promoting sculptural artistry for decades. Notable Achievements & Recognition: Throughout his career, Cabrera has achieved considerable acclaim, earning first prize in sculpture at Gabrovo, Bulgaria (1985), and receiving invitations to participate in prestigious artistic events across Europe and beyond.
