Josef Resch

Early Life, Family and Training Born in Munich, Germany, on October 24, 1819, Josef Resch entered a world shaped by the musical traditions of his city. He was the son of a Stadtmusikus, a local city musician, which suggests a household where the arts were a constant presence. This early environment likely provided a foundation for his later pursuits in visual expression. The trajectory of his life took a formal turn in the mid-1830s.

At the age of 16, on November 16, 1835, Resch began his professional training in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. This period of study provided the technical grounding necessary for a career that would eventually span various mediums, including lithography and portraiture. He remained connected to his birthplace throughout his life, eventually passing away in Munich on April 19, 1901.Artistic Techniques and Subject Matte…
