Early Life and Career Mark Gertler (født Marks Gertler den 9 december 1891 i Spitalfields, London) var en brittisk målare av figurstudier, porträtt och stilleben. Hans tidiga liv och relation med Dora Carrington blev inspiration till Gilbert Cannan’s roman Mendel. Gertlers förnam angliciserades från "marks" till "mark" år 1896 när hans familj följde sin far till London. Gertler visade redan som ung ålder ett stort talent för teckning och började studera konst vid Regent Street Polytechnic år 1906, men blev tvungen att lämna skolan på grund av fattigdom.
