The family's relocation to Boston provided him with exposure to burgeoning American art movements, particularly Impressionism, influencing his approach to capturing fleeting moments and atmospheric effects. Prendergast’s career wasn’t defined by a singular style but rather by a constant exploration of visual language, blending influences from Japanese prints, Art Nouveau, and the emerging modern aesthetic.
Prendergast's formal artistic training began in Paris in 1891.
