The Life and Artistic Evolution of Fritz Geyer
Born in Nuremberg, Germany, Fritz Geyer was a painter, graphic artist, and etcher. His formal training began in Berlin, where he studied at the Unterrichtsanstalt des Königlichen Kunstgewerbemuseums. He later became a master student at the Academy of Arts, studying in the landscape class of Eugen Bracht. Following the movement of his teacher, Geyer remained in Berlin, eventually becoming a member of the Steglitz painter colony. During the First World War, he served as a technical draftsman for the Siemens-Schuckert-Werken in Berlin.
Geyer's career saw a transition from a landscape painter to a painter of cities. He captured various urban views across Germany, including Nuremberg, Würzburg, Bamberg, Bremen, Lübeck, and Dortmund. His work provides a visual record of these cities as they appeared before the destruction of the war. In his later years, he moved to Seebruck am Chiemsee, where he passed away.
