The Artistic Journey of Morton Kaish
Morton Kaish was an American artist whose creative practice integrated the abstract and the figurative. Born in Newark, New Jersey, he attended Syracuse University's College of Fine Arts, where his studies coincided with a shift toward Abstraction. During World War II, Kaish served in the U.S. Maritime Service, working as a base artist at the Sheepshead Bay Maritime Training Center and later serving on missions to Europe. Following his service, he traveled extensively throughout Europe during the 1950s, studying at institutions such as the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris, the Istituto statale d'arte in Florence, and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome.
In addition to his work as a painter and printmaker, Kaish had a successful career as a fashion illustrator for publications including Harper's Bazaar, Esquire, and Lord & Taylor. His artistic themes often explored urban architecture, American landscapes, and the figure.

Kaish's work has been included in numerous prestigious collections, such as:

Throughout his career, he held various academic positions, including serving as a Professor of Art and Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. He also served as an Artist-in-Residence at Dartmouth College, the University of Washington, and Haifa University in Israel. His honors included the National Academy Lifetime Achievement Award and the Benjamin West Clinedinst Memorial Medal from the Artists' Fellowship.
