His artistic foundation was built while working alongside his father, eventually leading him to become a prominent art director for various film companies, including Associated Talking Pictures, Criterion Film, the Crown Film Unit, and Pinewood Studios. Beyond the silver screen, he was a writer and biographer, notably authoring a biography of his father titled Gordon Craig: the story of his life.

In 1937, he opened the first school dedicated to the study of film design in London. As a fine artist, he produced paintings, drawings, and prints, and he also worked as an illustrator for figures such as Edward James.
