Smith’s comedy was characterized by its intellectual depth, satirical edge, and observational humor. She skillfully dissected social and political issues with a distinctive voice that resonated with audiences. Smith was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003 but chose not to publicize her illness during her final years. She continued working and performing until her death on February 27, 2006, at the age of 48.
